The Brass Messengers

September 5: Last Chance for Music This Summer!

IDENTIFICATION: They are usually seen with various sized brass instruments, reeds, and items of rhythm. Color is very common in both appearance and personality of this species.
Their calls are based around the Gypsy Brass styles of Romania, and they have added their own take on American Country Music, Latin America Dance Rhythms, and Afro-Pop.
Don't miss this rare viewing and listening opportunity! This species will migrate to the Confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers on Thursday, September 11 at 6:30 p.m. They will be seen for only about one to one and a half hourse.

April 27: Spring is coming to Fort Snelling State Park! This is the month we really start to observe changes: Spring Ephemeral blooming, songbirds migrating, and frogs singing. A great time of year to get outside after a long winter.
May is also the month the State Park Geocache History Challenge begins! Learn how to use a GPS to start your quest at Fort Snelling on May 11 or May 24. or more information about the State Park Geocache History Challenge please visit www.mndnr.gov/geocaching.

Visitor Alert!
Park has reopened: Cleanup of downed trees and debris caused by high winds and rain that swept through the area early in the week has progressed faster than anticipated. The park reopened to the public on August 30. Park buildings, including the visitor center, are open as well as black-topped bike trails and the majority of other trails in the park. Please note that until inspection of the trails on the Dakota County side of the park has been completed, the public should approach with extreme caution the use of the eight-mile trail from Mendota to Cedar Avenue. Pike Island, Picnic Island and the swimming beach at Fort Snelling State Park are available for public use as well, however, no lifeguards will be on duty at the beach.
