Fort Snelling Upper Post

The Upper Post is an opportunity to tell the stories of all the generations that have come before. Treaties were signed and broken. Men trained for the Civil War, Spanish/American War, World War I, and World War II. 300,000 soldiers were processed through Fort Snelling during WWII alone. The Sioux were imprisoned nearby during the U.S.-Dakota Conflict and many lost their lives here. During the 1930s a supply depot was established at the Post to support Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps in an effort to pull America out of the Great Depression.

Architecturally, the buildings are stunning examples of construction methods and styles not found today. In the era of glass sky scrapers the brick, limestone, and wooden structures harken back to a time when a four story building was considered tall. The houses represent excellent examples of Queen Ann style popular in the late 1800s.

  • Golfing

Located in the historical Fort Snelling complex just minutes from the Mall of America and the International Airport, the Fort Snelling Golf Club is the perfect place to get away to play a quick nine holes of golf.

The par 35 layout is a great test for the average golfer offering a variety of holes. The course consists of six par 4's (all unique to one another), one par 5 and two par 3's.

The signature hole is the par 4-seventh, a classic ''risk/reward'' hole. At only 228 yards, this dogleg right tempts the longer hitter to attempt to reach the green in one shot. However, the water in front and out-of-bounds left and behind the green awaits any errant shot.

The golf course is known for its exceptional condition. The golfer will enjoy the closely mowed fairways and the smooth greens. If you have time for a quick nine, Fort Snelling Golf Club is the perfect place for you! The golf club is located at 6399 Ft. Snelling Ave.
